Grant Williams – Pilot

Brisbane born and bred, 32-year-old Grant has had a lifelong love of bike riding so this trek across Australia is a walk in the park.

Having been born with a club foot, challenges are nothing new to Grant. He’s always been a goal-setter.

Enduring numerous surgeries to correct his condition, Grant was up and running at 11 months old and defying the doctor’s odds by riding a bike by the age of four.

As the fourth eldest of 12 children, Grant enjoyed a lot of time discovering the mountainous areas in the surrounding suburbs of his Brisbane home.  At 16 he tackled his first 200km ride and finished at the final destination first.

In 1999 Grant married Rhys and their family unit now includes three fantastic boys – Lachlan, 7, Michael, 4, and one-year-old Christian. With the encouragement of their sons, they have spent many hours trail riding in local forests.

Over the years Grant has dabbled in bike racing and mountain biking. Never one to baulk at a challenge, Grant looks forward to seeing the lights of Sydney after leaving 4000km of dust in his wake on this epic trek as pilot rider for Dean Nicholson.

When your doctor told us when you were 2 days old that he could get you walking but not to expect you to be a great athlete we could not have dreamed you would one day take on a challenge like this. Mum says she just feels tired thinking about what you blokes are doing. Wish we could be in Sydney to see you arrive. Our prayers are with all of the Blindcourage crew, God bless you.

it’s ok I’ve read back and realise it is trigger point massage but not the good kind provided by a good physio but by bad road surface

Hey Pocket Rocket, keep it up mate, your doing so well. I know that Dean is extremely grateful for your efforts. You’re bringing into reality what was just a dream. Look forward to hitting the road again with you on some more “casual rides”. Jonathan has also been putting in some kms and will be coming on the Gold Coast audax 6 bumps & a hill.
